Keeping your new dentures fitting well and looking great is easy. Here are a few tips from our Summerland dentist on how to care for your dentures.
Clean Your Dentures Daily
Just like natural teeth, dentures need to be cleaned every day.
Use a soft-bristle denture brush and water to thoroughly brush and clean your dentures. Never use toothpaste on your dentures, it could damage them. While you're brushing your dentures be sure not to bend any of the attachments, and take care to clean each area thoroughly.
After each meal, rinse your dentures with water to remove any small bits of food.
Soak Your Dentures Every Night
To help to loosen the plaque and tartar, soak your dentures each night. Soaking helps to make cleaning dentures easier.
It's important to remember that soaking your dentures is not a substitute for cleaning them! To keep your dentures in great condition, soak them each night and brush them every day.
Treat Your Dentures With Care
Place a folded towel in the sink, (or on the bathroom vanity), whenever you're handling your dentures. The towel will act as a cushion and help to protect your dentures from being damaged if you accidentally drop them.
To prevent your dentures from drying out, soak them in water whenever you aren't wearing them.
Avoid using denture solutions if your dentures have metal attachments. Denture solutions could tarnish the metal attachments.
Never use hot water to clean your dentures. The heat could cause your dentures to warp.
