At Jubilee Dental Centre in Summerland, we use dental lasers as an alternative to traditional dental tools. Using laser energy, we can perform many procedures with little or no freezing, or without a drill.
What are dental lasers?
Dental lasers are targeted light beams that delivers quick pulses of heat energy to the area being treated. The wavelengths used will vary depending on the type of tissue being treated.
The Benefits
Surgical lasers provide greater accuracy and precision than traditional treatment methods. They make it easier for your dentist to conserve bone and tooth tissue during surgery, making the procedure less invasive.
Dental lasers also cause less bleeding and swelling than traditional methods do, reducing patient discomfort and healing time after the procedure.
In many cases, this can also eliminate the need for local anaesthetic during the procedure itself, which in turn reduces the duration of your appointment.
And since there is no need for local anaesthetic, we can often perform procedures that once required separate appointments together in a single appointment.
Lasers in Dentistry
Lasers can be used in many different dental procedures, including to:
- Remove tooth decay and prepare the surrounding area for a filling
- Reshape gums and remove bacteria during gum disease treatment
- Sterilize teeth during a root canal procedure
- Active the bleaching agents and speed up the teeth whitening process
- Reshape and contour gums for cosmetic reasons
