At Jubilee Dental Centre in Summerland, we perform root canals to repair damaged or diseased teeth.
Save & Protect a Sick or Dying Tooth
Root canal therapy is an excellent way to save a tooth that would otherwise die and need to be removed, and to ease any pain or symptoms an infected tooth root may be causing.
Signs & Symptoms
If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, it could be a sign you need a root canal. Be sure to visit your dentist for a proper diagnosis.
- A recurring abscess (or pimple) on the gums
- Sensitivity to heat and cold
- Severe tooth pain
- Swelling and/or tenderness
- Darkening of the tooth
The Procedure
Inside each tooth is a pulp chamber that contains the nerves and blood supply for the tooth.
When the pulp becomes infected due to decay or injury, the pulp must be removed from the canals of each root to prevent pain and prevent the infection from spreading.
Once the infected pulp is removed, the remaining chamber is filled with a rubber-based material to seal it off. The tooth is then covered with a dental crown to protect if from any future damage.
