Replace Missing Teeth with Dental Bridges
A dental bridge is a span of artificial teeth joined together to replace one or more missing teeth. This appliance 'bridges' the space between the two teeth on either end of the gap.
How Fixed Bridges Work
An empty space left by missing teeth can cause the surrounding teeth to shift out of their proper positions over time.
This can result in discomfort and an increased risk of tooth decay and gum disease, which could lead to further tooth loss.
Fixed bridges can improve your ability to chew and speak as well as enhance the appearance of your smile.
The Procedure
First, the teeth on either side of the gap between missing teeth are prepared for dental crowns. A highly accurate impression of the prepared area is then taken. This impression is used to create a porcelain, tooth-coloured bridge in a laboratory.
Once the bridge is ready, it is cemented to the prepared surface of the teeth, effectively creating the appearance of a 'new' tooth.
The Benefits
Unlike dentures, a fixed bridge is never removed. It provides better chewing ability and looks much nicer than a hole or space.
