We use white composite fillings, inlays and onlays to repair decayed, fractured or chipped teeth at Jubilee Dental Centre in Summerland.
A Clear Alternative to Traditional Mercury Fillings
Composite fillings are more than just attractive. They are environmentally non-toxic because they use no mercury. They are stronger because they bond directly to the surface of the tooth, and have less risk of fracturing because they don't require any removal of healthy tooth structure.
Composite Fillings
Composite resin fillings are white, tooth-coloured fillings. They are used both to restore decayed areas, and to make cosmetic improvements to your smile by changing the colour of the teeth or reshaping disfigured teeth. Composites bond to the tooth and support the remaining tooth structure.
The main benefit of composite fillings over amalgam (silver) fillings is how they look. Our dentist can blend shades to create a colour that is almost identical to the colour of the natural teeth.
- Inlays
Larger than a regular filling, an inlay fills the space in between the cusps, or rounded edges, at the centre of the tooth's surface.
Aesthetic inlays can be made from either composite or porcelain. These are now strong enough to be placed in the back teeth as well as the front. Replacing old silver fillings with aesthetic inlays is a simple way to help you improve the natural beauty of your smile.
- Onlays
Onlays cover one or more cusps. In some cases onlays cover the entire biting surface of a tooth. In cases where a dental crown would be excessive onlays will be used instead.
Typically dental onlays are more durable, and last longer, than a regular dental filling. With proper care dental onlays can last for up to 30 years.
CEREC Same-Day Onlays
Onlays are good alternatives to composite fillings when the decay is under the gum or when the fillings are large.
We use CEREC® technology to place ceramic tooth-coloured onlays in just one easy visit.
